In this workshop, participants explored the fascinating adaptations of whales to the challenging aquatic environment. Whales are in many ways extraordinary mammals: they have left behind features typical of other mammals, such as legs and body hair, while evolving remarkable traits for life in the ocean. This evolutionary journey has produced the largest and heaviest animals on Earth, record-breaking deep divers, and masters of song, to name just a few.
The Whale Workshop invited visitors of all ages to discover whales from multiple perspectives: examining and handling whale artifacts, listening to their extraordinary sounds, learning about their role in marine ecosystems, practicing the research methods of whale scientists, joining in creative whale-themed crafts, testing their knowledge in whale quizzes, and contributing ideas for whale conservation.
